New York City-based men's and women's apparel retailer Brooks Brothers has launched a new signature tartan and, in partnership with Royal Warrant kilt maker Kinloch Anderson, Scotland, opened a Highland Dress Store at its flagship store in Manhattan.

Brooks Brothers was founded in 1818 and is said to be the oldest men's clothing retailer in America. Its relationship with Scottish knitwear and fabric manufacturers dates from the 1850s. It will offer its new tartan — designed by Scottish Tartans Authority Director Brian Wilton using elements of the traditional 1819 Campbell tartan and the Brooks Brothers No 1 Repp Stripe — in a new collection of men's and women's knitted and woven clothing, accessories and other articles that initially will be available exclusively in its Manhattan store. The well-regarded retailer created the collection in partnership with several Scottish mills as well as the Scottish Tartans Authority. The initiative also received support from Scottish Enterprise and Scottish Development International.

"Brooks Brothers is proud to celebrate our heritage with Scotland," said Joe Dixon, senior vice president, production and technical services, Brooks Brothers. "It is testament to the creativity, quality and technical skills of Scotland that we continue to buy year on year. Our customers are extremely discerning and demand that we seek out the finest knitwear and fabrics for them. Scotland has continually delivered on this promise."

Discussions are underway to expand the Highland Dress Store concept to other Brooks Brothers stores both in the United States and abroad.

"Our company is proud to be involved and honoured to be invited to provide Brooks Brothers brand new Highland Dress Store," said John Kinloch Anderson, CEO, Kinloch Anderson. "Scotland is home to some of the finest fabrics in the world and along with the other Scottish suppliers we are delighted to see our products represented so well in New York and look forward to a long relationship with Brooks Brothers as this concept is extended."
